Nahid Islam mentioned that the establishment of an upper house based on proportional representation of votes was one of the demands for fundamental reforms as a safeguard of the constitution. He said, “We wanted to build a movement to create a legal framework for such fundamental reforms and the July Charter based on greater national unity. But Jamaat and its allies have hijacked it, they have reduced it to a structural PR issue and used it as a bargaining chip to save their petty party interests.”

Nahid Islam alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami was never involved in the reform talks before and after the July coup. He said, “They have not made any effective proposals, presented any constitutional vision and have not shown any commitment to a democratic republic.”

Criticizing Jamaat-e-Islami, Nahid Islam further said, “The sudden approval they have given for reforms under the Consensus Commission is not the result of a desire for reform; rather, it is a strategic intrusion. A political sabotage in the guise of reformism.’

NCP convener Nahid said, ‘Today the people of Bangladesh have clearly understood this deception. They have risen up for the truth and will no longer be deceived by fake reformists or deceivers.’

Nahid Islam also commented that Allah and the sovereign people of this country will never again allow dishonest, opportunistic and morally bankrupt forces to rule them.
